I was completely doubtful about this at first.

But as i took your examples, tried each one as I read them though them on a piece of paper, I was amazed how realistic I've made this simple character 0_0

Thank you VERY much for this. It's really helpful. I usually always make flat characters, but this opens up new opportunities to create even more realistic characters for my stories n_n

Kris,
I just started writing once a day about a month ago, and I've been caught in a stream of consciousness development. I'm totally stealing this method I think it will really help me continue to develop my characters.

Do you constantly imagine the characters' conversations? I'm trying to really give them distinct voices... I seem to be trapped in my own narration rather than freeing the characters..

It is the first time I am going to create some characters before writing a novel of my own. Definitely going to try the Cluster method to develop my characters.

Thank you so much for posting! I had high hopes for my characters, but they became stagnant after writing a few chapters. I've heard clustering before, but I didn't think it would be much help for me. Seeing an example really helped! This will also help me add a few subplots.

Thanks again!

omg this helped so much. my charachers are usually just cardboard cut-outs - the only thing that keeps each one individual was there look. But now... youve helped so much.

Thanks.

This is actually one of the better methods I've seen for doing this process of character development. I'm a writer who tends to stick with my old characters that I already know inside and out rather than create new ones, but I think that this method could really help me to get the hang of bringing new characters to life for other stories I'd like to work on. : )

Oh my gosh, I loved reading your article, the only problem is, I'm not allowed to get the software you used and I find it difficult to do without it :'(

(I'm 12 :D)

Hi Mik,
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you found the article useful. Mind mapping and clustering are great tools for exploring plot ideas but I always have fun using those techniques for developing new characters too.
